Fitness During the Holiday’s

The holiday season is a time filled with joy, celebration, gratitude, and lots of delicious food! During this time our exercise routines get disrupted which might cause some anxiety. It can be challenging to have a healthy relationship with exercise during the holiday season. I know I’ve struggled with this in the past, but it’s not impossible to still prioritize healthy habits during all the festivities. Here are some of my favorite tips to help you have a healthy relationship with exercise during this time of year.

  • Set realistic expectations: The holiday season is busy and you’re not going to want to push for any major fitness goals. Take this time to fit in workouts when you can and just try to maintain your current level of fitness. It’s okay if you’re not hitting every PR in the gym.

  • Plan ahead: Check your calendar and schedule and determine what days you can dedicate to organized physical activity. Having a game plan will make you more confident and organized during your gym sessions.

  • Do short, high-intensity workouts: During this time you probably don’t have hours to spend working out. Really embrace the shorter HIIT style workouts. HIIT workouts are higher intensity, often body weight, & can be down within 20 minutes or less.

  • See who’s down to join: This season is a great opportunity to get friends and family more involved in physical activity. See who’d want to go for a walk or do a workout with you.

  • Be flexible: It’s okay if you’re not as consistent with your workouts, remember it’s just a season. If you’re traveling it will be especially hard. Instead of seeing it as a setback, use it as an opportunity to try different activities.
